Several new Walther models and trims.
Several new Walther models and trims.

Walther has released several new models (more if you count color and size options), all an evolution of an existing model, but each offering something a bit different.

BLUF: Since these models will appeal to various people for various applications here's the short of it:

  • A Walther WMP now optics ready and with a threaded barrel.

  • The Walther PPK now available in its original caliber of 32acp, and threaded barrel options.

  • The Walther PP available in 32acp and 380acp

  • PDP models with an included magazine well and polymer take on the Walther Dynamic Perforance Trigger

  • A PDP model akin to the Canik TTI Combat that uses a shorter slide to make room for a compensator without drastic overhang.

Unsure about PDP Sizes? We have a PDP guide based on the original releases. There are considerations to take between "full size" and "compact" as Walther uses those terms for the frames only. You'll also have different shooting experiences with the different slide lengths. "F-Series" models have a shorter trigger reach and have been very popular among shooters of all hand sizes. Which PDP Article. PDP-F series article.

I don't need the details, just a source! If you've already heard about the PDP PRO-X, PDP PRO-E, PDP F-Series Pro, PPK/s SD, PP, and WMP SD and are just looking for a place to pick one up, check the listings below. It's been my experience that no one online vendor always has the lowest price, so I recommend checking multiple and at least weekly if you're waiting for something to come in stock.

The New Options

Walther WMP SD brings optics mounting and a threaded barrel to the WMP. We reviewed the WMP a while back and found it very enjoyable to shoot. While gathering ammunition for that review I was also pleased to find that 22 Magnum ammunition has come down in price quite a bit. WMP review HERE. MSRP of the WMP SD is $599.

Walther PDP Pro E Full Size: PRO models include what appears to be a polymer version of the Dynamic Performance Trigger and an aluminum magazine well and aluminum magazine well extensions. The trigger upgrade is something that can be purcahsed separately for $179 to upgrade an existing PDP, Q4, or Q5 model and is one heck of an upgrade. While some may see a polymer trigger and think "cheaper", those who shoot a lot know that metal trigger shoes tend to get hot while polymer tends to resist heat buildup. MSRP: $779

Walther PDP PRO-X Take a PDP PRO (non "E" model) and add a Parker Mountain Machine compensator onto a 4.6" threaded barrel. The trick of running a shorter slide/longer dust cover we saw on the Canik TTI Combat was also employed to present a more intentional look. Unlike the TTI Combat which has a ported barrel and muzzle weight, Walther's PDP PRO-X is a compensator added to the end of the barrel which will not result in a velocity loss. Available in both a compact and full size grip with an aggressive MSRP of $999.

Walther PDP F-Series PRO Making sure the F-series fans can enjoy the PRO upgrades. The shorter trigger reach in the F-series means the standard Dynamic Performance Trigger doesn't fit. Walther has resolved those wanting the shorter reach and smaller diameter grip with this new addition. MSRP: $899 Our original coverage of the F-series can be found HERE.

Walther PPK/S SD is the suppressable model everyone saw in the movies but never really existed. The sights remain small to keep with the classic lines, but a 3.3" threaded barrel means you can finally live out your James Bond fantasies. This model is also chambered in the original 32acp which tends to be loaded right around the sound barrier so depending on your altitude, you might just get to enjoy some almost "movie quiet" action too. MSRP: $1,099

Walther PP Available in both .380acp and .32 acp, stainless or black, this is the original that helped put Walther on the map. The barrel is slightly longer at 3.9" which adds a bit of velocity, slower slide reciprocation, and greater shooting comfort. MSRP: $969

I noticed that you, and also the other channels, say that " WMP now optics ready . But the original WMP was already optic ready , so that is not a new feture , is it ? Is it a direct mount ? I'm confused.

Where's the paddle mag release?

Too bad I'm stubborn enough to never buy another Walther ever again unless it has a paddle mag release - for I may be missing out... alas, I shall never know what it is I was missing. Sorry, Walther was my favorite until they became "push" overs. :)

Could you image the horror if Hk started that crap?

To be fair, the HK paddle release is terrible compared to the Walther paddle release; HK's are simply too short.
