When the Osight brand was preparing to launch I was invited to not only try one out, but also attend a special event. Neither of those things happened, and in a flash media excitement quieted about the original Osights due to various issues.

Now, in 2025, I was approached again, but told this time things were fixed. I agreed to give them a look and share my experience with you.

While I don't carry a pistol with a red dot on it, I also don't deny the advantage they can give new shooters via simpler aiming, shooters with aging eyes via a cleaner sight picture, and of course competitive shooters with a flash-moment aiming solution. In theory that also applies to self defense. Until I don't have a dot fail me in weather or conditions that iron sights wouldn't have failed I'll continue to use iron sights for carry, but I do appreciate red dots for the reasons listed above. If the enclosed Osight S survives Oregon weather for a few months I'll have new hope for enclosed dots.

That isn't a solar pannel, it's the magnetic base for the charging cover of the Osight S. Note integrated rear sights.

What Is It? Osight is a brand of Olight. With the Osight S and Osight X they have integrated a magnetic charging solution which also serves as a hood for the optic. The benefit is it means always being able to easily check and recharge the battery in your optic. The potential risk is that now there are two inedividual batteries which could go bad and render the optic usless. If you're one to lose things, the hood is not something you can pick up at a corner store as you might be able to do with CR2032 or CR1632 batteries.

Specs and Description taken directly from Osight's website:

  • Industryʼs First Magnetic Charging Cover: The Osight S boasts a pioneering Magnetic Charging Cover featuring a battery display that reveals the real-time battery levels for both the cover and the optic, making uncertainty certain. (The magnetic charging cover can fully charge Osight S 3 times, with each charge completed in 1.5 hours.)

  • Enclosed Optic with Aspherical Lens: Designed with a fully sealed system, the optic offers unmatched protection against environmental elements. Its aspherical lens ensures zero distortion and parallax-free performance, delivering exceptional clarity through the large window for rapid and precise target acquisition.

  • Multi-reticle System (2 MOA Dot & 32 MOA Circle): Switching between dot-and-circle, dot-only, or circle-only reticles, you can tailor your aiming solution to any usage scenario. The sharp and bright dot-and-circle reticle provides a cutting-edge aiming experience (suitable for outdoor activities, shooting training, and night patrols).

  • Universal RMSc Footprint (*S Model): Fitting directly to your optics-ready slides, the compact optic delivers exceptional compatibility, ensuring seamless integration across a multitude of builds.

  • First Optic Made of OAL™ Material: The OAL™ housing is tough, strong, and nearly as lightweight as 7075 aluminum, with a Level III anodized finish that provides superior impact and corrosion resistance for lasting durability. Osight models have been field-tested with over 100,000 rounds, maintaining reliability and holding zero throughout.

Graham's Thoughts: So far I've been pleased with both the Osight S and Osight X. I've mounted the X on the Mountain Billy Gun Lab GOAT-15 and S on the BUL Armory Ultralight Pro. Each have one range session through them so far with no issues. The packaging was impressive, matching how the latest cell phones used to come when companies were competing for attention including anything one might need. The screw kit was particularly thoughtful and will be living in my range bag regardless of if I have an Osight with me that day or not.
